No Trespassing

No Trespassing.

Recreation in or near breeding areas can lead to disturbance of birds. What seems like a relaxing walk to us can be stressful for a bird: an increased heart rate, looking up, stopping to search for food, flying away. While a single disturbance has little impact, repeated disturbance leads to chronic stress. Breeding pairs abandon their nests, young get insufficient food, and bird species completely avoid disturbed areas. [1].

'No Trespassing' is an interactive sound installation that was developed in response to the above problems. The presence of the visitor influences the behavior of a mechanical bird nestled in the hidden corners of Landhuis Amelisweerd. The installation aims to raise awareness about the importance of quiet breeding areas and the destructive effects of human recreational behavior.
